our week 1 update with the faster way to fat loss program!

Another week and another update after Week Two of our FASTer Way to Fat Loss journey with Ahna Fulmer as our coach! If you are just popping in to read our current update and missed the previous ones, you can find those here.

I know full well that change is not immediate and always knew that this program wouldn’t be “easy.” But I wasn’t expecting how difficult it would be to alter my mentality about food and try to understand nutrition and what foods are best for me and how much should be going into my body. Big surprise here, but over this past week, I always felt like I wasn’t eating enough. My goodness, it’s hard to eat enough proteins even when I am being intentional! Some days I would get to the end of the day and feel so frustrated because while i have had no problem changing what I eat, the how and when has been the hardest part for me. It is so hard to wrap my head around what has the most protein or carbs or fats and how much do I need to be eating for that day.

I was feeling pretty down and hard on myself during this week and I have no idea how anyone would ever get through a program like this without a coach to walk you through it! I was so thankful this week to have our coach Ahna continue to remind me that overhauling our lives with the foods that we eat, intermittent fasting, AND exercising every week is a big change and I need to give myself grace! GRACE! Why is it so hard to give ourselves grace?

In the middle of the week, I actually took a “break” during an overnight spa getaway with my girlfriends! I didn’t necessarily intend to take a full break, but our coach Ahna (who actually happened to be on this trip with me, since she’s one of my closest and oldest girlfriends!) continued reminding me that when there are days that we can’t or aren’t able to stick to our plan during this 6 weeks, it’s more important how we jump back in to the intermittent fasting and carb cycling. I will say, that while I didn’t follow the carb cycling or stick to the gluten free plan that Eric and I are determined to follow for this 6 weeks of the plan, I was encouraged that I was only slightly over my carb goal for the day! Protein on the other hand… that’s still been so hard to hit! This quick getaway that was originally planned for March and pushed back to August had us all waiting impatiently and to be honest, I was a bit bummed that it landed on the calendar after I started FWTFL, but it gave me a great chance to learn to give myself grace and remember that being intentional about what I am eating and how much and then how I could jump right back into the intermittent fasting and carb cycling without any major issues was a great experience for me this week.

My goal for this next week to get to a point where I am just enjoying the food that I am eating, rather than stressing over all of the details and goal amounts. I know I will get there. I may be a slow process for me to fully understand this whole nutrition aspect, but I am determined to get to a point where it just clicks and I have a good grasp of what to snack on during the day and meal planning and prep for Eric and I for a week to fuel our bodies with the right kinds of foods that will give us the most energy not just for our workouts, but for effectively burning that fat that we don’t want to see anymore!

If you know me at all, you know how crazy this is about to sound - but I believe that my favorite part of this past week as been the regular exercise! It certainly has not been easy every day (some of those workouts are tough!), but I have felt such a great sense of accomplishment and feel that each day the 30 minute workout goes by quicker than the day before! One of my favorite things this week has been watching each of my Activity Rings on my Apple Watch close each day - sometimes my Exercise and Move goal are reached before noon!

My win has been starting to figure out my macros and what I need to be eating to have the right nutrition that my body needs. I haven’t had a headache all week, and haven’t really craved any sugar or gluten.

To those of you who have reached out with encouragement or just asking us about the program - THANK YOU! Your questions help to keep us accountable and encourage us to keep pushing forward in the hard moments.
