our week 1 update with the faster way to fat loss program!

It’s time for our recap and update after Week One of our FASTer Way to Fat Loss journey with Ahna Fulmer as our coach! If you didn’t already read our first post giving an introduction to this program and our reasonings for starting, you can find that here.

Eric and I want to be intentional to share with you our personal individual experiences with this program and what we love about it (and what we find difficult as well!) - we are all about authentic living and that means sharing the good and the ugly! As a quick reminder, it is our goal to come out on the other side of this 6-week program having instilled better knowledge and habits of healthy eating, living, and exercise.

Week One has been a big learning curve and adjustment, that’s for sure! There is a lot to learn about what we should be putting into our bodies to fuel them properly (and to be most effective with our workouts for that day) and to also learn about how much to be eating. Personally, I don’t feel like the eating windows for the Intermittent Fasting has been too hard. The most challenging aspect for both Eric and I has been making sure we are eating enough of the right things to stay fueled - especially on our low carb days!

Here’s the best part though: we’re not in this alone and we don’t have to figure everything out by ourselves! Having a coach and a group for the encouragement and accountability has been one of the best things about this last week! Our coach Ahna has done an incredible job so far walking us through each day and giving us tangible goals and answering all of our questions along the way (no matter how silly some of them may seem).

Sometimes when I jump into something new, I can have a personal expectation of wanting to know and understand something immediately and see quick results… but slow and steady is the key here! One of the phrases that they use and encourage in this program is progress over perfection… and I’m all for that! We are learning SO much that just takes some time. The entire nutrition aspect has probably been the hardest part for me to grasp so far, but I’m determined to understand more about the food that I eat and how it can help me to feel better and burn fat instead of storing it!

Eric said that as a guy, it can be a struggle to eat enough calories to get what his body needs without carbs. He also found that he had a dull headache as his body adjusted to life without the processed food and carbs, but that has gone away as the week progressed.

So now that I have shared some of the difficult  (but necessary and valuable!) parts of our journey, we also want to share some of our wins each week!

WEEK 1 WINS

Like I said earlier, if I’m not careful, I can have an expectation to see big results really quickly, so even yesterday I was kind of feeling down wondering if anything has really made a difference yet after just one week. Then I had to get my son up from his nap and decided to do a quick jog up the steps… and by the time I got to the top of the steps, I wasn’t out of breath! It seems so small, but I know that is a huge win for me, especially as I need to remind myself that this is all about progress, not perfection!

My win has been getting back into the habit of regular exercise. When I played soccer in college workouts were built in, and I’ve been able to regularly exercise with varying degrees of success since then, but it has been a few years since I have had a regular workout routine. While it might not be possible to always work out together, it has been fun to push each other through the routine and be an encouragement throughout. I’ve also appreciated that we can both do the same workout, but vary weights and resistance bands to match our unique fitness levels.
