When it comes to technology for kids, I’m always cautious. I want my kids to have the tools they need to feel safe and stay connected with me, but I also want to protect them from too much screen time or access to things they’re not ready for. That’s why I was intrigued to test out the COSMO JrTrack Kids Smart Watch. This smart watch is designed specifically for kids—no internet, no social media, and only approved contacts—making it a great option for families like ours who want connection without the overwhelm. After trying it out with my son (5) and daughter (3), here’s my honest review.

What is the COSMO JrTrack Kids Smart Watch?
The JrTrack is COSMO’s latest kids’ smart watch designed to keep families connected safely. It builds on the success of their previous JrTrack version but adds even more parent-friendly features like GPS tracking, safe contacts only, and new kid-safe apps. (Note, for our review, we are testing out the JrTrack 4. Features are likely to change or be added with future versions). Unlike most devices, it’s completely free from internet browsing and social media, so parents can feel good about giving their kids a little independence without opening the door to online risks.
First Impressions: Setting Up the JrTrack 4 Smart Watch
I was impressed with how easy the setup process was. I downloaded the parent app, created a profile for my son, and could immediately see the phone number tied to his watch. From there, I added myself, my husband, and even his grandmas to his contact list. The watch only allows calls and texts from parent-approved contacts, which gave me peace of mind right away.
My Kids’ Reactions to Wearing the Smart Watch
Both of my kids were excited to try it out (and even fought over who got to wear it). The watch was a bit big for their tiny wrists, especially for my daughter who’s only three, but they had no problem learning how to answer a call or send a message. My son loved being able to call me from across the park, and I was surprised at how easy it was for him to figure out the basics.
Best Parent Features of the COSMO Smart Watch
Here’s what stood out most to me as a mom:
GPS Tracking: The ability to check my child’s location gave me so much peace of mind. Perfect for crowded places like amusement parks or the zoo.
Safe Contacts: I control who my kids can talk to—no random calls or texts.
No Social Media or Internet: This is huge for me. It’s a phone alternative without all the risks.
Price Point: Compared to other kids’ smart watches I’ve researched, this one offers a lot more features for a lower price.
Parent App: Everything is managed easily from my phone.
Testing GPS and Call Features at the Park
We took the JrTrack Smart Watch for a spin at a large park near us to test out the GPS and call features. I quickly learned that GPS tracking can be set to update every few minutes (which helps the battery last longer) or in real-time (which drains the battery faster). When I switched to real-time, I could see exactly where my son was as he ran ahead with my husband. We also tried making calls, and it was easy for him to answer and call me back.
(Note: we tested this out at a public park, because I know better than to post where we live on the internet 🙃)
Drawbacks of the JrTrack 4 Kids Smart Watch
The only drawback I found was battery life, especially when using GPS in real-time. If you keep the GPS settings on high-frequency updates, the battery drains much faster. Adjusting it to less frequent updates solves this, but you lose some of the “instant” tracking ability. Full disclosure, it’s also possible that I didn’t charge the watch for a full charge before testing, but the fact still remains that the battery will also drain faster if you are tracking in real-time. The watch itself is also a little bulky for small wrists, though I think it’s a better fit for older elementary kids.
Who is the JrTrack Smart Watch Best For?
While my son is still a little young to use this every day, I can already see how valuable it will be in a few years. I’d recommend the JrTrack Smart Watch for:
Elementary school kids walking to/from school
Kids starting to ask for a phone (this is a perfect middle ground!)
Families visiting amusement parks, zoos, or crowded events
Parents who want peace of mind without giving kids internet access
For now, we’ll hang on to the watch and reactivate it once my kids are a bit older—but when that day comes, this will be our go-to choice.
As a mom, I love the idea of giving my kids a little independence while still keeping them safe. The COSMO JrTrack Smart Watch strikes the perfect balance—it’s affordable, simple to set up, and gives me peace of mind without overexposing my kids to the digital world. If you’ve been considering a safe way for your child to stay connected, this smart watch is definitely worth looking into.
